Resilience of Poppies, 2023
“Resilience of Poppies” explores the inspiring story of those who have overcome tragedy and adversity. It tells the story of courageous survivors—men and women targeted by security forces during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran and shot directly in their eyes, resulting in many of them being blinded.
This multifaceted project includes a self-portrait video, a mural, and a series of performances that honor their resilience and spirit. Using the traditionally feminine craft of crochet, I create handmade poppies as symbols of collective strength. These poppies are shared through video, photography, and performance as tools of remembrance, solidarity, and connection, inviting community and shared healing through acts of visibility and care.
