Covered, 2019
“Covered” is a sculptural piece featuring a body form entirely draped in a black fabric called a chador. A hand-painted Farsi poem by Forugh Farrokhzad spans the chador’s surface, while the head is adorned with a crocheted wire veil.
The sculpture compels viewers to confront how women in oppressed Islamic societies are forced to cover themselves. It emphasizes that these women are no different from those elsewhere—they have dreams, strive to be fearless, and long to unveil their true desires.
