Green Dimension, 2019
“Green Dimension,” is a sculptural piece depicting a figure covered by a white fabric known as a “chador.” The head is adorned with a crocheted veil made of hemp yarn and willow tree spikes.
This work represents a Middle Eastern woman living in a free, non-Islamic country, yet still confronting numerous obstacles that limit her freedom. The veil and white covering are intended as symbols of these restrictions—not specifically of the hijab itself. The “green” in the title evokes the lush space of the land she left behind, a place filled with fond memories and deep roots. Mentally, she inhabits a world of nostalgia, holding onto remembrance and hope for return.
